6/21/14 – Gloucester & Rockport

My friend Melvin messaged me because he had just purchased a DSLR for himself and asked if I could help show him the ropes.  I was so excited to put together an itinerary for a day trip because I knew exactly where I wanted to take him.  With beautiful weather ahead, bumpin’ beats, and stories of old and new, we ventured up Route 128N to Annisquam, a district of Gloucester.  The narrow, winding roads and signs that were hung which told non-residents to “Stop, turn around” did not deter us from our mission of reaching Annisquam Lighthouse on Wigwam Point.  I finally found a place to park my car: a fire lane in front of a beach with tow zone signs.  The only other place to leave a car would be in a resident’s driveway.  We parked and headed onto the beach, climbed over a few rocks, and there was the lighthouse.

As we headed back to the car I noticed a bright pink piece of paper on my windshield. I was sure that it was going to be a hefty fine for parking in a fire lane. As I reached for it, I realized it wasn’t a fine, but a love note from a resident, “You are parked illegally. If you are visiting a resident please park in their driveway.  If not, I have taken down the make, model, and license plate number.  Next time you park here you will be towed.”  Needless to say, my car has been blacklisted from Wigwam Point, but it was well worth it…

We left Annisquam. Next destination: Bearskin Neck, Rockport.  We made a couple of stops along the side of the road, but the rest of the photos from the trip are below.  After snappin’ the final shot, we decided that it would be a sin to leave without having some fresh-off-the-boat seafood.  Thanks again Melvin for the Fish and Chips!

Photos were taken with my Canon 40D and most were taken with a Sigma 10-20 f/4.0-5.6 lens + Hoya CPL + Cokin 121 ND Grad filter.  This was the first time I got to use the graduated Neutral Density filter and I was so happy with the results!
